Out of the Darkness

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, the New York City AIDS Memorial will host the 30th “Out of the Darkness” World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering, commemorating the 40th year of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Organized by the American Run for the End of AIDS (AREA) and GMHC; Co-sponsored by ERC Consultants, The Keith Haring Foundation, International AIDS Prevention Initiative, New York City AIDS Memorial and St. John’s Lutheran Church
The candlelight vigil will be held at the New York City AIDS Memorial at 6 PM. After the vigil, people will walk to Christopher Street and head west to St. John’s Lutheran Church for the gathering featuring guest speakers and performers beginning at 7 PM. Guests include Oni Blackstock, MD, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Reverend Pat Bumgardner, Pastor Mark Erson, Larry Mass, MD, NYC Flaggers, Pride Puppets, and the singers from the documentary, “For the Love of Friends” about the founder of the American Run for the End of AIDS and Out of the Darkness World AIDS Day events, Brent Nicholson Earle—Aaron Casey, Kristyn Christman-McCarty, Mario Diaz-Moresco, Kathleen Grace Fiori, Christian Adam Jacobs, Sara Misch, and the composer Salomon Lerner.
