Event: The Reading for AIDS Remembrance with PEN America

On June 22, 2017, PEN America hosted The Reading for AIDS Remembrance  at the Memorial, an incredibly moving event where poets, storytellers and performers gathered to mark the first-ever NYC Pride in a public space “dedicated specifically to AIDS remembrance.”

Speakers included Kate Bornstein, Timothy DuWhite, Jean-Claude van Itallie, Rickey Laurentiis, Jaime Manrique, Ethelbert Miller, sam sax, Sarah Schulman, Jean Valentine, with tributes to Reinaldo Arenas, Tory Dent, Melvin Dixon, Tim Dlugos, Essex Hemphill, David Wojnarowicz and others.

New York City AIDS Memorial Founders Christopher Tepper and Paul Kelterborn and Board Members Keith Fox, Fraser Mooney and Kendall Thomas joined and spoke with the audience about the Memorial.
