Event: World AIDS Day 2019

The New York City AIDS Memorial is pleased to announce our participation in several programs around World AIDS Day 2019, taking place on-site, in New York City, and across New York State, alongside auxiliary events and programs. Please find information below.

28th Out of the Darkness Candlelight Vigil & Gathering

Please join us on December 1 for a candlelight vigil beginning at 6 PM at the New York City AIDS Memorial (Greenwich Avenue & West 12th Street) and continuing to St. John’s Lutheran Church (81 Christopher Street) for time of reflection and reading of names of those we have lost to AIDS (begins 6:30 PM) and a World AIDS Day gathering with guest speakers and performances (begins 7 PM). Refreshments will be served following the gathering.

STILL BEGINNING: The 30th Annual Day With(out) Art

STILL BEGINNING: The 30th Annual Day With(out) Art

For the thirtieth annual Day With(out) Art, Visual AIDS will present STILL BEGINNING, a program of seven newly commissioned videos responding to the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic by Shanti Avirgan, Nguyen Tan Hoang, Carl George, Viva Ruiz, Iman Shervington, Jack Waters/Victor F.M. Torres, and Derrick Woods-Morrow.

The NYC premiere at the Whitney will be followed by a conversation with artists Shanti AvirganViva Ruiz, and Jack Waters, moderated by Visual AIDS Programs Manager Kyle Croft. The presentation at the LGBT Center will be looping from 2-5 PM.

Carols by Candlelight: an Advent Sequence for World AIDS Day

Carols by Candlelight: an Advent Sequence for World AIDS Day will be sung by the professional Choir of St John’s in the Village in collaboration with the Choir of Dignity New York, an LGBTQ group which meets regularly at St John’s. A collection will be taken for the upkeep of the New York City AIDS Memorial, which is just a stone’s throw from St John’s.

Music by: Arvo PärtJacob HandlBoris OrdThomas Morley, and many other composers alongside congregational and community carols.

World AIDS Day Community

Please join the End AIDS 2020 Coalition on Monday, December 2nd, at 11 a.m. at New York Academy of Medicine for World AIDS Day 2019. We will remember those we’ve lost, lift up those who are living with HIV and AIDS and raise our voices to unify our community. Join us in solidarity in the fight for an end to New York’s AIDS epidemic by 2020.

The event will be wheelchair-accessible and a sign-language interpreter will be on hand to make the program accessible for the hearing-impaired. Seating will also be available for attendees with disabilities or health conditions.

Seating is limited to capacity, registration is required. Resister here.

Continental Breakfast will be provided starting at 10:00 AM.


Únase a nosotros el Lunes 2 de diciembre a las 11 am en New York Academy of Medicine, en el Día Mundial del SIDA 2019. Únase en solidaridad para derrotar la epidemia del SIDA de Nueva York para el 2020. Juntos recordaremos a los que hemos perdido, apoyaremos aquellos viviendo con VIH / SIDA, alzaremos nuestras voces para unificar a nuestra comunidad.

El evento será accesible para sillas de ruedas y habrá un intérprete de lenguaje de señas disponible para personas con discapacidad auditiva. Los asientos también estarán disponibles para los asistentes con discapacidades o condiciones de salud.
