WORLD AIDS DAY: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 6 PM
Co-presented with American Run for the End of AIDS (AREA), ERC Consultants, GMHC, International AIDS Prevention Initiative (IAPI), Keith Haring Foundation, NYC AIDS Memorial, and St. Johns Lutheran Church
On Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 6 PM, the New York City AIDS Memorial will host the 31st Annual Out of the Darkness World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering.
Organized by the American Run for the End of AIDS (AREA) and GMHC; Co-sponsored by ERC Consultants, The Keith Haring Foundation, International AIDS Prevention Initiative (IAPI), NYC AIDS Memorial, and St. John’s Lutheran Church
The candlelight vigil will be held at the New York City AIDS Memorial at 6 PM. After the vigil, participants can join the march to Christopher Street and head west to St. John’s Lutheran Church (81 Christopher Street) for a time of reflection and gathering featuring guest speakers and performers beginning at 7 PM.
Brent Nicholson Earle, Founder and President of the American Run for the End of AIDS, Inc. (AREA) and Out of the Darkness organizer comments: “As we begin our fourth decade of presenting our Out of the Darkness events for World AIDS Day, the need for AIDS awareness and prevention remains as urgent as ever, especially as we contend with the additional challenges of COVID-19 and MPV, which disproportionately affect the same communities at risk for HIV/AIDS.”
For the safety of our guests, speakers, and performers, we encourage attendees to wear face masks in St. John’s Lutheran Church during the gathering. Social distancing will occur in the church as well. Wheelchair accessible and ASL interpreted. Light refreshments will be provided after the gathering.
For more information, email krishnas@gmhc.org. For those who cannot join us live, the gathering will be live-streamed on https://stjohnsnyc.org.
